I don't dare to think about what would have happened if he'd looked like Johnny Depp, Jenny! I think OH would have had me out of there faster than a falling fruit kebab.

If I'm ever in Columbia, I'll look out for Harpers - thanks for the tip! And I'd love to watch Spellbound with OH, just to see the bemusement on his face at that part!

Ooooh, there's nothing I love much more than an excellent waiter who isn't afraid to flirt! TG knows where to take me for this kind of treatment (and excellent food): Harper's in the Five Points neighborhood of Columbia, which is basically the campus of the University of South Carolina. They make my coffee fresh now, without my even having to ask. They know better than to bring me some that's been sitting in the pot even for five minutes. And they always compliment my millinery.

If a waiter impersonated Johnny Depp ... down to the eyebrow cleavage ... TG would see flirting that would put more hair on his chest.

The tine thing ... reminded me of Gregory Peck in Spellbound. He got the heebies if they were too straight. Ingrid Bergman cured him rather nicely, though.

Hi DeaFulgora - welcome!

I think the Med would do very nicely. I'd go a long way to be treated like that. ;)

I can point you out to dozens of Italian friends with the same smile, same attitude, went probably to the same school (mine, Hotel management made in Italy!) and the same jobs (although not working in Vancouver, I am afraid. Would the Med do??? :)

It is, indeed a gift. That's why I said any restaurant would be insane to sack him. After all, he brought us back to eat there again. Well, him and the food, of course. ;)

If I didn't know any better, I would have thought you were served by my brother. He was very much the kind of waiter you described. He had (he is now a restaurant manager) a way of making one feel like they were the only person who existed in his universe. The real gift was that he could do it in a room full of ten tables.

Bastard.
