That was the challenge from Liz of Finding Life Hard? ‘Find the fourth photo in your picture folders and explain it’, she said.
Hmm.
The problem is this: which folder?
You see, I have about thirty-odd, and most contain images that belong to other people and I can’t post those on my blog without being in breach of copyright.
So. Should I go through the list and pick out which of those thirty-odd folders contain my own images, and take the fourth picture in the first folder belonging to Me?
That could pose a tiny tadlet of a problem, because the first thing I find in that first folder belonging to Me is .. another folder! So do I ignore that sub-folder and take the fourth actual picture? Or do I go to the first folder and count it as No. 1, then go the first sub-folder, and count that as No. 2, then the first sub-folder in No. 2 will count as No. 3, and eventually perhaps I’ll find a picture. How about that?
Urgh.
Harrumph.
On the first try I found out just how disorganised I am, because the fourth photo using that method actually turned out to belong to someone else, despite being in my folder, because it belonged with the pictures from that event.
So, skipping directly to the folder actually labelled ‘My Stuff’, and leapfrogging between folders and pictures, this is (as near as dammit) the fourth picture. It’s called ‘Light One’.
Arty, ain’t it?
OH and I had gone up to see Son No 1 and his girl, and we drove home in the dark. I beguiled the journey by fooling around with my little compact digital and long, hand-held exposures, juddering the camera about in various ways while snapping pictures of the traffic on the road ahead of us. I believe the technique is called ‘Painting with light’.
Most frames were useless, of course, but I did get a couple of dozen really nice abstract pictures. Â And it was fun!
So, who wants to join in with this meme? How about Houndstooth of Tales and Tails, Kate of iRamble, Sistertex of Spacial Peepol, and Sandy of I Beati?
With luck, you might get a hound in all of them!

Jay, do you have a Mac, or has Apple made a lot of their apps cross platform now?
I had similar problems when I did this meme. Mine are all in iPhoto albums. I think I chose album 4, photo 4
I took some of those light shots with our Christmas lights. They can be very arty.
Babs – Yes, it’s a Mac.
I wonder how many people there are who can just go to their single photo album and pick the fourth picture? I bet it isn’t many! LOL! You should show us some of your lights shots.
I like it – it’s very fun! And fast!
I rose to the occasion choosing, per instruction, the 4th photo in my 4th photo folder.

Yes….I am one of ‘those’ people who could do it and did.
We keep all of our photos on a ‘homeserver’ and they are in different folders depending on date. Scary huh?
And really no big surprise of the content of that 4th folder or the image that was the 4th one. Not a good photo but I have more photos of this particular subject than any other.
I wouldn’t quite be able to do it. I’ve had to put several folders in a ‘head’ folder in order to clear some space and not have to scroll down every time I need a photo. And then not all photos are all that interesting either.
I love your photo though. I once did it with Wembley stadium and one actually came out really nicely.
Hi Jay – Just arrived at my son’s house – good thing I brought my laptop …. I will check this out in the morning… thank you!
Yeh I have mine stored on flickr so they’re all in sets. Nice filler for a rainy day though so I’ll keep it in mind. Off to watch the showjumping this weekend so hopefully a nice horsey shot for the fourth. Not quite a greyhound but pretty nonetheless. Have a good weekend!
My goodness, Jay, I have three folders! Obviously, not the photographer here! But I love your photo. Reminds me of the energy conversation a friend and I had over dinner last night. He was getting into some abstract explanations and theories; that when I had just pushed two glasses to each other or swirled the straw…all invisbile, because…
Yikes! Is this invisible?
Have a wonderful weekend, Jay!
)
p.s. I e-mailed dLife to find out what would be a good substitute for eggs in the Crispy Vegetables recipe. I personally can’t think of an alternative, yet, there should be…considering how many don’t eat eggs. I’ll let you know when/if dLife replies.
Lisa’s Chaos – Thank you! It was fun to do!
Sistertex – Oh, well done! I knew you’d post a hound .. or several! LOL!
Mara – That’s how it started with me, sorting the photos into two or three folders to make scrolling easier. Ha. Now look at me!
I’ve never tried that technique in a stadium! I bet that’s fun, too!
Kat – Are you visiting? Have fun! No hurry on this one.
Baino – Show jumping? That will be fun to photograph! I await your results with interest!
Petra – I had three folders, once. *Misty eyed look of nostalgia for past simplicity* LOL!
I don’t know what you and your friend were talking about with glasses and swirls and theories, but it sounds a bit like Son No. 1′s ‘Ants’ explanation for the way electricity works! LOL!
And thanks for trying to find out if I can do that recipe without eggs! I’d like to try it, if it is possible!
[...] you to Jay at the Depp Effect for this meme…. Find the fourth photo in your picture folders and explain [...]
Good for you speaking at greyhound meet who better. In Sandy land this week, I met a 90 year old looking 65 and the little girl said mom was asleep we love you , and my sister has fallen in love hook line and sinker at age 65 with a man she’s had a crush on for 10 years!!aint’t love grand !!
I would have blindfolded myself and pointed. I love that lights shot. I got one like that in Paris that turned out to be one of my favorites in front of the Eiffel Tower. It was a screw up, but the effect was beautiful.
Hehehe, just as I wanted to type this comment (lovely photo! You are so clever with your camera.) my mother called. Meanwhile you were commenting on my blog, because everytime the computer bleeped I checked what the incoming message was, while my mother went blablablablabladebladebladebla about people I don’t know *deep sigh* And then she even had the nerve to say about someone that ‘you can’t get a word in edgewise’ and I finally had the nerve (after about 20 years) to tell her that I never can get a word in edgewise when she is talking, hehe, which did the trick because then she hang up on me, so I could finally type this comment.
Phew! Have I mentioned that I love the lighteffect in that shot? Very arty!
Sandy – Thanks!
Aww .. that’s very sweet! Good for her!
Kathy – I nearly resorted to that! Thanks – I think often the first time we do something like this it’s an accident, but then we can go on to try what we can do on purpose! It’s fun, anyway!
Carolina – Thanks!
And, my goodness – my mother does the exact same thing! I just say ‘Oh yes?’ and ‘Oh, I know’, and ‘Did you?’ every so often. LOL!
Oh very arty! I’ll have to see if I have long exposure on my camera.
I always file things very logically … I think unitl I try to find something!!
I saw that screen shot of yours and my first thought was to wonder what operating system, theme and – possibly – program had produced it … my inner geek is well and truly off his leash!
Oh, nice photo too by the way!

Ro´s last blog ..Dear Checker: ???????
Very pretty, and very arty. I like it. I just read ‘Don’t Bug Me’s contribution, and I think it’s so nice that each picture has such a lovely story associated with it.
