Why you should not feed your dog outside
Posted on May 18, 2008 in The Home Front by Jay5 Comments »

MouseDishLook at this picture carefully. Yes, it is what you think it is – a field mouse sitting in the dog’s bowl.  And OH was sitting in the conservatory not more than six feet away with the door open. Cheeky little beggars, aren’t they?

Just for the record, I like mice, but they do carry diseases which are communicable to humans and also to dogs. Leptospirosis being the most common in this part of the world.

I can remember when I was in Utah lying on the floor of the cabin I was staying in. If I lay pretty still, the mice would come out and after a while they would actually start to scamper all over me. I found this amusing, but then I like mice and think that they are very cute. What I do not like is going outside to find another dead one depositied in one of my empty plant pots. Thanks, Willow!

I remember when we had cats, finding mice lying about in odd places. One of the cats used to bring dead things in and lay them in his food dish!

Aw, it looks cute. And that’s such a pretty picture, with the flower pot, shiny dog’s bowl and little mouse – so cute!

Aussie, yes it is cute … and I don’t mind them in the garden, but when they learn they can get fed, it’s not such a good idea. They tend to set up home and breed. And I don’t want them indoors!

Natural – field mice are just fine, in fields. They should stay there!
