Macro Monday – Sweet Sid

SidClsUpShpskn-800cjs

Sid might be a greyhound. He might be capable of speeds of around 25 mph (yes, even with a leg missing – those with four can go much faster than that) but he’s quite content to sleep most of the day. He curls himself into his nice big, soft dogbed, and snuggles down into the sheepskin and there he will stay for hours on end.

Now, if it were me that sheepskin would tickle my nose, but Sid doesn’t seem to mind – although it is true that sometimes he’ll let that big head of his drop over the side onto the carpet. I think perhaps he does that when he gets a little warm, and he needs to cool down.

So for Macro Monday today, you have a picture of a great gallumphing, thirty-three kilos of muscle and bone standing around 28 inches* at the shoulder … or at least part of him. It’s not a true macro shot, but it’s a nice close-up, don’t you think?

Oh, and some of you asked to see my first efforts at modelling with epoxy resin clay. It’s a completely new medium for me, and I’m not much good yet, but hopefully I will improve.

GrhndHds-800cjs

From the left: My very first – rather lumpen – effort. A caricature greyhound head and neck. Then the second attempt, this time of a flat head, maybe suitable for a pendant. Lastly, a combination of the two – a caricature, flat head, hopefully suitable for fixing a loop to and hanging from a chain.   Once again, I’ve forgotten to put something in for scale, but the largest of these is about an inch tall – that would be the one on the left – and the smallest (on the right), is about three quarters of an inch.

* I lied. Well, I guessed, and I was wrong. I just measured him and he’s between 30 and 31 inches at the shoulder!

    Thanks for dropping by Jay.
First, that is such a cool shot of Sid.I love Greys, and if we had more room, I’d love to adopt one, but for now Tauqua our Lab mix is wonderful, and he loves the new kitty. He’s actually a cat lovin dog.
She doesn’t appear to be deaf so far, and her former owner told me there were 4 babies all white and they all had these different colored eyes, and some of them were turning all blue, so we’ll see.
    I like your models too.
Have a great rest of the week.

Ahhhh Jay, love seeing Sid…wonderfully snuggled in and snoozing so happily!

I really like your Greyhound heads, you are so very talented. They are cute, whimsical and I think adorable. I wish I could do something like that. Very very nice!

I think your modeling attempts are quite good, especially considering how small they are. You really captured the character in the middle one.
I love this almost-macro shot. And Sid makes me long for a sheepskin to cuddle on.

Awwww . . pretty pup. And spoiled rotten (hark on me, mine’s lying sprawled across my pillows on the bed – a doggie bed would be a put-down!) Cute little charicatures too, I have a little clay head of one of our beloved labs that my dad did years ago when I was potting. It looks just like him (er the labrador, not my dad!)

The model on the far right looks like Santa’s Little Helper from The Simpsons.

When are you moving on to full size ones ?!!

Strange how cats and dogs like to sleep most of the time. Probably just as well for us humans though or we couldn’t keep up :)
I like the little head on the right.

Great shot of Sid, though I cannot let our two Aussies have a peek at it. They’d surely want their own sheepskins.

Becky – It’s good to hear that your little white cat isn’t deaf! And that Tauqua loves her. Maybe one day you’ll be in a position to adopt a greyhound, maybe not. But it’s good to know that Sid is a good ambassador, even over the internet!

Sistertex – Thanks! You of all people know how greyhounds love to snuggle down and snooze! ;)

Thanks also for the nice comments on my clay models. You’re very sweet!

Ethelmaepotter – Thank you! I was quite pleased with my first attempt though they are very rough. I’ll do better next time, but I only have a small quantity of clay. I need to get some more!

Baino – Spoiled rotten, you say? Well… you may have a point!

I treasure the paintings and drawings that my boys have done of my dogs, so I’m guessing that clay lab is a highly treasured possession! And for more than one reason. :)

Jama – Any excuse, huh? LOL!

Silverback – I already have a full sized one, duh!! LOL!

Babs – Thanks – Yes, that’s my favourite too! I might see if I can get a mould made when I have that right, and I can make them using precious metal clay and do earrings. :)

Dutchbaby – Top (greyhound) sprinters can reach 45mph. I doubt Sid was anywhere near that good when he had four good legs, but 25mph is still a lot faster than I can run!

Nina Xi Fotoblogg – He’s very good at it! ;)

Marvin – Thanks! Of course they would – and why not?

Kaytabug – Thank you! Yes, he certainly knows how to relax!

Sid is so cute and your photo is a really nice close-up.
I like your modeling peaces, you must be a very patient person to make these small artworks.

Meleah and Gattina – Thank you! Yes, the sheepskin must be tickly, but he doesn’t mind.

Maia – I think making small artwork leads to more patience! If you’re not patient in trying to make models, they simply don’t work. Sid and I thank you for your kind words. :)

John McDevitt – Sid is easy to love – but thank you!

Sandy and Lisa’s Chaos – Thank you! :)

Dave Ingram – Allergies I understand. I can’t be around cats any more. Used to have them, now I can’t even visit someone with a cat. Sad, but can’t be helped.

Kate – He is big. At 33kg minus a leg, he is pretty heavy too. Good job he’s a sweetheart, huh?

Geri – Hahaha! That’s very good .. and very true! LOL!

Maureen – You are very kind – I don’t think they’re that good, but I’m so glad that you do!

Anthony North – He is indeed!

    Ladynred – Thank you! :)
