I love pomegranates! But ‘the king of fruit’? I don’t know, but they do seem to be wearing a very kingly crown, don’t they?
Sadly, this dish of small pomegranates shrivelled into inedibility because shortly after I bought them I had a bad attack of acid reflux and I knew they wouldn’t help. What a shame … opening up a pomegranate is a feast for the eyes as well as the tastebuds, with that jewelled mass of seeds glowing like rubies against the pale creamy skin and golden-pink outside shell.
No wonder they each wear a little crown, when they have a king’s ransom of fruit sealed inside like gems in a vault.
Macro Monday. Not just a load of old rocks.

That’s a wonderful shot Jay, well observed! Two of my children vie with each other every Tuesday whe my Tesco shop arrives, over who has taken one two many pomegranites! I keep them aside now, to dish out fairly. (sigh..)

Great photo Jay. I still remember the look on my mother’s face that day when she walked into the kitchen. We were eating pomegranates and shooting the slippery seeds at the walls. Great fun, big mess and the last pomegranate we tasted for a long, long time.

Hi and thanks for your comment, I like frogs, they are really cute! And this little one I took a pic of is on the endangered list here in Sweden. Really like your pics of the pomegranates, tasty fruit and it really deserves a kings crown.
I used to love pomegranates when I was a kid, but I bought some in more recent years and didn’t like them any more. How strange. Lovely photo

I’ve looked at pomegranates many times and never saw a crown. Now I will always see it! Great photo, it almost looks other-wordly, don’t you think? Maybe like Mars erupting.

Shrinky – Well, I can’t blame them – pomegranates are delicious!
John McDevitt – Ahahaha! Yep, my boys did something like that too – on a nice hyacinth blue wall which I’d recently painted, and which developed permanent pinky-purple spots as a result! Did you know that the anthocyanins in pomegranate juice act as a pH indicator? No, I didn’t either, not till then. LOL!
Babs – Doesn’t it usually work the other way round? That is strange!
Villager – Mmm … they do look a little like red planets, don’t they? LOL!
Dorothy – No, you just eat the seeds plus the juicy pulp which surrounds them. You don’t have to suck the fruit off the seeds, just eat ‘em!
You can put them on salads, or juice them, or just eat them straight out of the peel. I used to spit the seeds out, but there’s no need to.
What a great shot! So amazing what you see when you get to that macro level.

As a kid I drank too much lemonade and pomegranate juice one Christmas. I threw up rather violently and have not touched a pomegranate since. Still, they are rather beautiful inside. I really should join in with this Macro Monday thing, but the whole commitment thing, I am not sure that I can handle it.

They are yummy! And what a fun photo!
They’re all the rage here in sauces and as toppings. I remember sitting on the curb in a Cheshire suburb as a child eating the seeds with a pin! Can you imagine parents giving their kids a pin, a pomegranate and telling them to go sit on the curb? Haha . . then mine used to tell me to take a bread knife and play in traffic.

Pomegranates certainly test your patience, I grant you that! They turn you into a little nibbler like a mouse – unless you like to scrunch the seeds too…
Love the color. I like them also but I have to spit out the seed, so much work.

In Singapore , the durian is the king of fruits, and everybody knows that! I didn’t notice the crown on the pomegranate, my neighbour have a tree, I’ll go and take a look.
One of my all time favorite fruits too. I love red fruit: pomegranates, cranberries and raspberry.
Too bad you couldn’t partake of them!
