Macro Monday – How about this?
Posted on January 4, 2010 in Life, the Universe and Everything, Oddities, The Home Front by Jay42 Comments »

Well, last week’s Macro Monday quiz was such fun (tee hee!) that I thought I’d do it again.

You remember last week, don’t you? I gave you a picture and invited you to guess what it was, and surprisingly, less than half of you got it right! Either that means it was a really cool macro, or it’s only English paper towels that look like that. Or, of course, I caught you all on the hop. Well, let’s face it, who puts their chin on the kitchen counter and stares at the paper towel from a distance of two inches – apart from me, that is?

So here’s this week’s macro shot. It’s not two pictures joined in the middle, this is what it actually looks like -

MM-TY800cjs

Again, it’s something that most of you will own, in some form or other.   Yours might not look exactly like this, but I bet you have one – in fact, I’m guessing you have at least two, because this particular thing comes in pairs.

So what is it?  Remember that the weather has been pretty harsh lately, even in jolly old England, and that’s the only clue I’m going to give you.

Check back tomorrow, and I’ll put the answer in the comments for you, so it doesn’t spoil the game for latecomers.

Ohhh… this one is far more difficult. Is it a pair of tail lights on your car?

BTW: I spent some time reading your reason for the title of your blog and I loved it! You are hysterical and inspiring!

Hummmm…curious. To me it looks a bit like some sort of materal (cloth?) that has been torn at or maybe even chewed…Sid? Has Sid been nibbling at something? A slipper?

    Or mitten perhaps…
It looks a bit in ill repair to me. :)

Thanks for the visit. Comes in pair you said, perhaps this can be a detail from the lights on a car or on the other hand their has been bad weather in England as well. My guess is a detail from a varning triangle.

I strongly feel that this is part of your car Jay. I remember a blog you did about a daffodil, and a photo of it placed on the bonnet of your car which I remember as being red! I have spent ages ploughing through your old postings looking for it, but to no avail. So my brilliant idea has bitten the dust. I still feel that your car is red and that this is a wing mirror or the like, coated in ice. But I also suspect that I am sooooo wrong!

First I want to thank everyone for playing – it’s made Macro Monday a lot of fun for me!

The answer will be given at the bottom of these comments, which I’ll split into two sections because so many of you lovely people played my little game! Thanks, everyone!

Trish and Teresa – You’ll kick yourselves! But it is a very close close-up. ;)

Kath – Not a bad guess! But no. LOL!

Kim – No, not the side of a pavement. ;)

Colleen – You are a clever girl! It is indeed the tail lights of my Toyota Yaris! Well done!

And thank you for those kind words! I’m always happy to amuse and inspire! :D

Babs – Functional it is, so you’re halfway there! :p

Christina – Full points for you too! Well done! :)

Mama Zen and Jama – Don’t worry, you’re in plenty of good company! And it is a difficult one! ;)

Sistertex – Haha! No, poor maligned Sid has never chewed anything much, bless him. One time, and he was told and he never re-offended.

Regina – Frozen it is, but not cloth!

Müge – A tulip! You’re right! But purely accidental and designed by nature! I hadn’t even noticed it. :) And yes, metallic it is.

    Meleah – No worries – it’s a hard one! ;)

Mere – Interesting guess! But no. I’m English anyway, so unlikely I’d have one of those hanging around.

Carolina – Well, you’re absolutely right in that it is frosted plastic! Genuine frost on genuine plastic. Shame you couldn’t get the rest of it! LOL!

  36. on 05 Jan 2010 at 11:33 am36carolina

Hmmm, okay, I’m kicking myself now. Good shot! Could you email me what lense you use for your macro shots?

Maria – You were right the first time – it’s detail from the tail lights of my car! Well done! :)

CarolynUSA – And you’re right too! Well done! :)

Birgitta, Baino – and Jientje – It was a difficult one, wasn’t it? Not very many people guessed right!

Liz – Not a bad guess at all! So nearly right … ;)

Petra – You will kick yourself! I know you will! Thanks for trying though. :p

John McDevitt – Pretty good guess! Thank you! :)

Ingalill – You’re right, but what sort of lamp? Scroll down for the answer!

Granny – Aaaah, you are so nearly right!! Well, you’re right in that it is a piece of my car … which is blue, by the way! LOL! Yes, that long bonnet with the daffodil on it is very, very blue – it’s a different car, but this one’s blue, too! We seem to have a thing for blue cars in our family.

    Take a look here!

Michelle – No, not socks! You’ll kick yourself … LOL!

Maia – Oh, it’s amazing what can have such gorgeous colours when you get close up!

Lisa’sChaos – Tail lights? That part is right! Well done!

DutchBaby – ‘Eyeball benders’! What a wonderful name for them! LOL!

CameoRose – Windscreen wipers? Well, you’re in the right ‘ball park’! ;)

Mr N – Ice is right, scraper is not! Good try though! ;)

Paul Wynn – It’s amazing how you can get out of practice at things like this, isn’t it? Thanks for looking though!

Katherine – Pretty good guess there! Except it’s not headlights and the paintwork isn’t red!

    AND THE ANSWER IS …

This picture is an extreme close-up of one of the tail lights on my Toyota Yaris. Click here for a picture of the back of the car.

This was taken in January last year because I forgot to get the wider view this time, but you can see how the tail lights are both white and red, because the reversing lights are integrated into the design.

Thanks for playing everyone! It’s been a lot of fun!

  38. on 05 Jan 2010 at 11:46 am38Jay

Carolina – But you were so nearly right! No kicking allowed! LOL!

I can tell you what lens I used, but it probably won’t help you, because it only fits my little Panasonic Lumix bridge camera. :(
