I was over at Confessions of a Random Chick just now – a blog I found recently and added to my newsfeed because it’s both fun and thought-provoking – and I found a post there with this very title (only without the exclamation mark).
It was a great post, because it didn’t have words, she just posted pictures of what she loved. You should pop over and take a look.
OK, time’s up. Get back here!
Anyway, I thought it was such a great idea that I stole it. Obsessions are such fun things to have. So, here we go … now, what’s first, I wonder?
Oh, look! It’s Mr Depp! What a surprise, eh? I met him, you know, and I took those two photos with my own fair (and slightly shaky) hands!
Also, those of you who read my blog regularly, or get to it through Blogger’s back door will know about the other love of my life*, which is dogs. Specifically, greyhounds. This picture is made up of images of the dogs we have owned since 1994.
Aren’t they beautiful? The little chap with the hat on at the bottom left isn’t a greyhound, of course. He just happened to be giving Sid a very sweet hug at a local show where we were helping to man (dog?) a stand.
What’s next? Well, I’ve always loved to read, and this is a part of one of our bookshelves.
The fact that it’s only a part confirms the ‘obsession’ part, probably .. but anyway. One author I’ve been guilty of being a little obsessive about is this one -
Luckily OH shares my obsession, which is why we have them all in hardback. As well as in paperback.
What have we here, above yet another bookshelf?
Well, well. It’s Johnny Depp in his role as Captain Jack Sparrow, in all three of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. Pretty, ain’t he? Even OH thinks he makes fine wall art – but then he has always loved cinema posters.
And talking of tasty -
Chocolate. I do love chocolate. In particular I love good, dark, quality chocolate. And all these were bought on a single shopping trip to a new supermarket which had clearly decided to lead the field in chocolate for the discriminating. Oh, it was fun, trying them all out! Except that one in the white and blue wrapper. That one is flavoured with cinnamon and I can’t stand the stuff. OH had that one all to himself and he was welcome to it. Of the rest, I think probably the Peruvian 70 was my favourite. Rich, dark, earthy, and yet not bitter. Excuse me while I drool.
Oh, are you still here?  Um.  I think I mentioned Mr Depp already, didn’t I? And reading, come to that. OK. I’ll stop drooling and move along.
Here’s a hobby which I find absorbing and relaxing.
Every so often my bank account takes a beating when I go on an Ebay binge, or Etsy, or just random jewellery supply shops. You see, I can’t help myself buying up those cute little findings …
Oh well. At least it leads to something constructive. These I made as Christmas gifts for my Depp friends one year.
Then there are movies! I haven’t watched many lately, but I do love a good movie. And I’ll watch them over and over again, especially from this drawer -
Aah, there’s some good stuff in there! There are also some that aren’t that good, like Before Night Falls, and Private Resort, and I didn’t much like The Brave, but I have to have them because … well, they’re part of the Depp collection, aren’t they, so they do have Johnny in them. And that’s always a good thing.
You might also notice that I appear to have more Pirates of the Caribbean movies than they’ve actually made, and also that I have three four copies of From Hell. So? What can I say. I refer you to the title of this post.
Oops! I nearly forgot one of my lifelong obsessions!
Insects and bugs! And, of course, taking pictures of them. I love taking photos and I love macro photography in particular. That’s two obsessions in one, right?
Did I remember to mention this one?
I did? Oh, right. Okay then.
Before I go, there is one obsession that I have neglected to mention. I know what it is, OH knows what it is, my boys know what it is, and I suspect that you do, too.
No pictures! We don’t want any incriminating evidence, do we? Someone might feel they have to DO something about it, and we can’t have that.
*OH is, of course the original love of my life.

I have never read Terry Pratchett, although I believe he is supposed to be very good. I think I may have a whole set of his paperbacks in a cupboard that I never got around to looking at.
Johnny Depp is always worth looking at.
Have you tried raw chocolate – that is to die for

So, I am right in saying you have a slight fondness for a certain Mr Depp? Or would that be going too far?

Excellent!!!
I didn’t know you were a Terry Pratchett fan. I have SO many of his books. I love reading his tales! And of course I share you love of Johnny Depp and the hounds. Couldn’t have been a more fun post to read. Thanks for sharing your obsessions Jay, a lot of them are mine as well.
Oh this is fun. Could make a fantastic meme so I might steal it for one of those days when I have writers’ block. I really like the idea of making costume jewellery. I rarely wear it but might if it was something unique. I do like dangly earrings I must admit, will you post a little more of your creations. I love all your obsessions . . well except OH cos . .well that wouldn’t be right now would it!

Lets see….
Dark chocolate….nope.
Greyhounds……..nope.
Jewellery………nope.
Terry Pratchett…nope.
There IS hope, though, as Mr. Depp is a cool dude although I think he peaked in Gilbert Grape.
But cinnamon….OMG….email me that chocolate, dark as it may be. I LOVE cinnamon and would have it in a sandwich if I could. I already put it in with sugar on toast and have been known to use it as a meat rub. Cinnamon and raisin bread. Yum. Cinnamon on my porridge. Yum. Cinnamon sweets ? Yum. Cinnamon rolls ? Double yum. Cinnamon toothpaste ? Oh hell yes.
Can I still come for a visit ?

Magnificent Obsessions Jay! I’d go along with chocolate definitely, Mr D is growing on me, love your greyhounds but wouldn’t have one for myself. Haven’t tried Terry Pratchett but do love reading and love jewellery. Great post, as always.
I spy Mavis Cheek and Catherine Alliott! Yay!
All very normal and understandable obsessions.

Joanna Cake – Johnny is worth staring at (and drooling over) for sure. You should try the Pratchetts. They’re allegorical and great fun – very intelligently written with many, many references to classical myth and cultural icons (like opera, poetry, politics, etc).
Raw chocolate? Where would I get that from? I’ve had a drink supposedly identical (as far as recipe goes) to the original Mayan drink, but otherwise, just processed stuff, I’m afraid.
Mara – Indeed you would be correct in assuming that I am more than a little fond of the man. LOL!
Sistertex – I didn’t know you were a Pratchett fan as well! How wonderful! I’m sure we probably share more than we know. We should meet up some day and see!
Baino – Making jewellery is such fun, you should try it! Earrings are really easy. I’m making dog tag collars at the moment, experimenting with pink organza ribbon for the ‘girls’ and leather and suede thong for the ‘boys’. Hopefully they’ll raise a bit for the greyhound rescues, too.
Go right ahead and join in! I think it would make a great meme.
Silverback – Mr Depp is indeed a ‘cool dude’, but I think you’re wrong about Gilbert Grape, excellent though he was in that. Cinnamon is Evil and is not to be tolerated. Wipe it out, I say!!
Can you still visit? Well, yeah .. especially if you bring Johnny over with you.
SJ Anne – Well, greyhounds aren’t for everyone, it’s true… but you should give Terry Pratchett a try! What have you got to lose?
Liz – I love Mavis Cheek! Catherine Alliott is a little more ‘mainstream’ but still fun. I’m on Janet Evanovich and JR Ward right now. LOL!
Sandy – No, I haven’t seen that one! I don’t mind George, but he’s not a particular favourite. I’ll look out for it though, since you recommend it so highly.
I can’t think of any better obsessions than Depp, Pratchett and dogs – high five, girl – you have impeccable taste!!

Nice collection of dictionaries! Can’t have enough of ‘em!
Like the idea of posting photos of things I collect or admire or dream or fear or whatever. Fun!
I bead and know what you mean about findings. You can never have enough…LOL!
For myself, I’ve been obsessed with dogs for a long time now. Owned many, loved them all and it was my pleasure to share their lives. Miss them so much!

Shrinky – Why, thank you, my dear! Someday I’m going to get back over to Craggy Isle and then you can high-five me in person.
Michelle – So, apart from bread (I don’t do well with yeast) we have a lot in common, then! Good to see another dictionary addict. They are fascinating, as well as useful. There are even more of them upstairs, too.
Petra Michelle – Share? Share??? You mean, like, ‘let one of them go outside the house’? Where’s my blue blanket? I’m about to have a panic attack.
If people want to share, they need to come watch it here. ROFL!
River Poet – Hello again, D! Good to see you back again. I’ll pop over, later.
No prizes for guessing what/who my obsessions are
Apart from a certain Mr. Boorman who has a certain je-ne-sais-quoi about him.
Fun idea for a post. Might steal it one day too.
Off now to check out the Random Chick blog.

Going back to my previous comment Jay – if I was going to get a dog I would consider a greyhound because I think they are so beautiful and I cannot bear to think of the hard life that some of the “retired” ones have.
Love the jeweley, and of course, your macro photos are always fabulous.
But…wait…you didn’t mention your obsession with Johnny Depp, did you?

I have seen your Depp obsession at your home and read about it here. Likewise the greyhound obsession and the making jewelery – I think the biggest reason for me knowing all this is your ‘blogging obsession’!!! But where would we be without that one eh?
