Blog Awards
Posted on July 17, 2008 in Johnny Depp, Life, the Universe and Everything by Jay23 Comments »

ArteYPicoAwardToday I was awarded the Arte y Pico award by Ruth Hull Chatlien. I was also given this one a few weeks ago by Drowsey Monkey and since she was very low key about it all and didn’t insist that the recipients went ahead and passed it along – and I was away on holiday at the time – I thanked her warmly and that was that.

I very much appreciate when people take the trouble to send me things like this, I’m touched, and honoured, and it makes me feel warm and fuzzy all day, and there are plenty of blogs out there who deserve these things from me, so it’s time I did something about that. I’ve been lazy, and that’s the truth of it, so now I’m being a good girl, joining in, and putting it all right.

And while I’m on the subject of awards, laziness and putting things right, I also received the Johnny Depp Award from Sandy, of I Beati – again, while I was away. This was my first ever award and I had no idea what I was supposed to do with it, except I thought perhaps it was intended to be embedded somewhere and I haven’t a clue how to do that, so once again, I went all warm and fuzzy, thanked Sandy most sincerely, and parked that delicious picture on my desktop, where it still remains, so that I can ponder how it is that a man can look that good in a ripped tee shirt whenever I see it.

To these wonderful people, I’d like to say a huge thank you. I really do feel honoured, and will now pass them along to some very fine fellow bloggers.

JohnnyDeppAwardThe Johnny Depp Award goes to my friend and fellow drooler Jenny, of I’m Having A Thought Here. Jenny, please accept this award for the blog with the most Johnny Depp references and quotes that I’ve ever seen, and for being a great Deppsister.

The Arte y Pico award is for creativity, design, interesting material, and also for contributing to the blogging community, no matter what language.

The first to get this one is Mr Nighttime, and you’ll see by the post which I’ve linked to that he does indeed provide services to Blogdom. He’s also sharp and funny and at times, thought provoking. Mr N, I don’t know if you’re into awards or not, but you deserve this one!

Then there is JD of I Do Things who selflessly does all manner of things, like .. um … sneeze … so we don’t have to. She’s a scream, and I strongly recommend that you visit if you haven’t already done so.

Babs from Beetle Blog is next. Babs, I salute you. You write the funniest product reviews and the most wonderful diatribes I’ve ever read, and I love your reminiscences too!

Don’t Bug Me – an excellent and very funny blogger whose repertoire is broad. You never know what you’ll find there, but it’s always worth reading! I particularly like her posts about small creatures (oh, alright, insects, bugs etc), and she’s not above making a decent social comment either.

One of the very first blogs I added to my news feed was English Mum in Ireland, and she is my last recipient. She encourages new bloggers, promotes the cause of ex-racing greyhound adoption (she is owned by the delightful Bertie) and writes in a pithy and often very funny way about a wide variety of subjects. She has also led me to some great blogs which I now read regularly.

So now for the rules.

If you choose to accept this award, this is what you should do:

1) Pick five (5) blogs that you consider deserve the award for their creativity, design, interesting material, and also for contributing to the blogging community, no matter what language.

2) Each award has to have the name of the author and also a link to his or her blog to be visited by everyone.

3) Each award winner has to show the award and put the name and link to the blog that has given her or him the award itself.

4) Award-winner and the one who has given the prize have to show the link of the Arte y Pico blog, so everyone will know the origin of this award.

    I am pleasantly shocked.

Firstly, I am the first to comment here ;O)
Secondly, that you should pass on the Arte Y Pico award to li’l ole me. Thank you so much for the lovely comments too.

Something like this helps immensely when, like me, you are still feeling your way into blogging.

    Thank you so much.

Ooh, I’m so glad to see you’ve had multiple awards lately. And I applaud your choice of the Johnny Depp award. (And isn’t he scrumptious?)

Congratulations on your Arte Y Pico award (gosh, that man and his award have gotten around, this season!). Drowsey’s a great gal– and I’m sure she’ll be glad to see your award displayed next to your new Johnny Depp award, though I know for a fact she prefers Vincent D’Onofrio. :)

I, however, am in total agreement with you about Johnny Depp. :)

Babs – I’m still feeling my way into blogging too! I love your blog, and I consider it fits all the criteria, so you’ve earned that Arte y Pico, my dear. ;)

Ruth HC – Thanks again for awarding this one to me! This is the sum total of the awards I’ve had, by the way, it’s just that they’ve all come along at once, like a no. 3 bus! LOL! And yes, he is indeed scrumptious!

Jenny – Well, honey, there’s a queue. But hey – at least you’re in it! ROFL!

Thank you! I’m so honored I could sneeze! Seriously, this is a lovely award, and I have to confess, I was given this award once already, which diminishes not at all this second bestowal. It’s really cool, and I’m thrilled. I like to joke about most things, but I absolutely love the practice of passing around awards among bloggers. It may just be a funny badge or a drool-inducing picture of Johnny Depp, but it means a lot to me, because it makes me feel part of such a great community of creative people who want to support each other.

OK! I think I’ve gone on long enough. Thank you!

JD – Blogs like yours are the reason we have a great community of bloggers!
When I was very new and searching for good blogs to read I could not believe the amount of dross out there. Many of the blogs I read seemed to exist only to provide a platform for the blogger’s horribly uninspired personal diaries and they didn’t interact much with anyone else. Hopefully those blogs belong to very young people who will mature and learn and eventually become a part of the community proper. In the meantime, it’s up to you guys.
    Pressure? What pressure? ;)

Jenn – Thank you! Sorry, your comment was in the moderation queue!

I don’t know who Vincent D’Onofrio is but yeah, give me Johnny Depp any day! Please! Give me Johnny Depp! LOL!

Nice to see yet another Johnny Depp fan on here!

Now I have that warm and fuzzy feeling – thank you, thank you, thank you! Can I send the award straight back to you, since I enjoy reading your blog so much? In fact, some of your buggy photos spurred me on to buying my new macro lens, which I now love more than Mr. DBM – just kidding!
Now, who to send this to? Bit of a problem there, since I don’t read too many blogs – how on earth do you people keep up with them all?

Babs, Momma, Moon, Meleah – Thanks so much! I am so touched and happy!
Mr N – LOL! Sally Field! But I do like you. You may have only been blogging for a short while, but you are very good at it! My OH reads, now, too!
DBM – Thanks so much! You are sweet! You know you are much better at bugs and macro than I am, but it’s nice to know I inspired you to spend money! LOL! I don’t think anyone keeps up with ALL the good blogs, but .. I have over sixty in my feed reader. Yikes …
EM – I only come to your blog to see Bertilicious. Just kidding. I enjoy your blog a lot and I do consider you a blogging friend! :)
Lola – Thank you! Always good to get a new reader, and especially a new reader who is also a Johnny Depp fan!
Scratch – Mmm, he’s worth lingering over, huh?

You do a great job Jay, always fun, insightful and full of those ‘Oh yes! me too!’ moments that get me through the day. Thanks for the links too. Fab choices, great people.

I’m seriously thinking of starting a blog of my own. Especially now I know I’m in with a chance of winning the Deppster, in a T-shirt you could rip off him with your teeth!!!Yum.

  21. on 19 Jul 2008 at 3:03 pm21Jay

Jeni – Dream on, honey. You think I’d let him out of my clutches if I got hold of him? Oh. You mean the picture? Oh yeah. You can have one of those! ROFL!

Thanks for the kind words. And you should definitely blog. I can’t wait!

DM – Thanks! But the Johnny Depp Award is not funny – it’s a Very Serious Thing. I believe if I collect enough of them I can exchange them for the man himself. Well…. a girl can dream, huh? ROFL!
