Here in the UK it's very different and men of my advanced age somehow feel stupid wearing any sort of t-shirt - even a plain beige one. So I have 2 sets of t-shirts : one set can be worn in the US and have no limitations at all and the other set is for the UK and consist mainly of polo necks and plain black/blue/gray shirts which do not cause me to be laughed at. I also wear white ankle socks and trainers 100% of the time so there is no hope for me here really. I need to immigrate.
