Macro Monday – Puzzle No. 8
Posted on February 8, 2010 in Uncategorized by Jay30 Comments »

MM-No8cjs

I promised you something easier for Macro Monday this time, didn’t I? And I’m glad I did, because I stayed up till 3am watching the Superbowl last night so I’m not exactly firing on all cylinders myself!

So there it is. After that fiendishly difficult puzzle last week (the absinthe spoon, if you remember), I present you with a very ordinary, everyday object. One that you’ll find in most kitchens – at least in the UK, USA, and New Zealand. Never having travelled outside those areas myself, I cannot say for sure, but I suspect that this item is fairly widespread across the globe.

Instantly recognisable, seen as a whole, this may be too easy for you clever people, but I’m hoping it will be fun anyway!

As usual, check back tomorrow evening (UK time) for the answer. I’ll add a link to the big picture at the bottom of this post, and also the answer will turn up in the comments at some point. And thank you all for playing!

And here we are on Tuesday evening and I expect you’re all waiting for the answer, huh? Well, here you go! Congratulations (once again) to our champion guesser, Colleen! And to our joint winner Quilly – yes, you were right, too! Well done you two – the others were nowhere even close!

But I bet a lot of them will be kicking themselves! Tee hee.

I think I might know what it is, but as I’m the first commenter, I don’t want to give it away. Is it possibly the container for the items that I posted about today?

I must NOT be very clever because I have NO IDEA what this could possibly be!!

I thought about a vacuum cleaner bag at first, but then I read the ‘found in most kitchens’ bit. So, now I’m a bit stumped.

Hmmm. Intriguing. I feel I SHOULD know what it is – it’s kind-of on the tip of my mind… And I can’t claim that I won’t know what it is because I’m in New Zealand, as you’ve specifically included me. It’s a box of somethings – because the little hole is a spouty-thing… Nope. Stumped.

Looks like something involving a filter, but I really don’t know.

hummmm, do I have one of these in my kitchen? It does look a bit like lint, or a sock or a sponge or as you can see, I have no idea.

Everyone – And I thought it was so easy! I should perhaps just tell you that it isn’t insulation, pads, a sock, carpet or lint, or any kind of filter. And there’s no ‘spouty thing’.

    Keep guessing! :)

I agree with John on the scrubbing pads. The ones I buy are blue but green cleaner would do the trick too.

Everyone – Thank you so much for playing again this week. I only hope you all had as much fun with it as I did.

Our winners for Puzzle No. 8 are Colleen and Quilly, both of whom guessed correctly. It’s a common or garden variety egg box, but just a small detail of it – one of those little details that we see so often, but don’t really look at. Click the link I’ve added at the bottom of the post to see the full picture.

See you again next week? :D

I thought the same thing as John McDevitt. They look so much like the scotch-brite scrubbing pads:

I know I’m late with my comment, but hubs and I just spend a good 10 minutes guessing. Good fun and great shot. We didn’t guess what it was. But we have a lame excuse since we have our own chickens so we don’t have to buy eggs ;-p

Dutchbaby – Wow, they DO look like my egg box close-up, don’t they? They even have that rounded shape! I do love the fact that they’re beginning to make these things of recycled material.

Colleen – You’re just too good at this. I’ve only foxed you once, haven’t I? And that hardly counts since you’d never seen an absinthe spoon. You’re my star guesser! ;)

Kala – One day it might just come to you. Keep trying!

Maria – Amazing, isn’t it? It’s really, really rough cardboard. Ideal for the eggs – and for my puzzle, too! ;)

Silverback – As indeed we do. But I bought these pleb eggs specially for the picture. You know I won’t actually eat them, right? ROFL!

Carletta – It’s actually quite hard to judge it so that some will be able to guess, but not everyone. Also, with an international readership, I have to try to make it possible for everyone.. not that easy!

    SJ Anne – Tee hee!

Michelle – Sure enough it is! ;)

Carolina – I’m glad you had fun! But surely you’ve SEEN egg cartons, so that’s not a valid excuse, my friend. LOL!
