Here we are on Macro Monday again! And I have another fairly easy puzzle for you.
Well. That’s easy for me to say, I suppose, but I think it’s easy.
This is something that not all households will have, but I would think most will have seen. Some households might have had many more than one of these, at one time, but don’t need them now.
They don’t all look exactly like this, of course, but isn’t that true of almost anything, from a vinegar bottle, a patch of graffiti on a wall, to a set of fire tools or an egg box and back? Even such a ubiquitous object as a spoon will vary from kitchen to kitchen across the world.
This thing can actually vary quite a lot, and it isn’t quite such a ubiquitous – or necessary – object as a spoon. However, those that do have them would be sorry to be without them, I venture to guess.
Confused yet? Oh, I do hope so!
As usual, check back tomorrow evening (UK time) for the answer. I’ll add a link to the big picture at the bottom of this post, and also the answer will turn up in the comments at some point. And thank you all for playing!
And the answer is here! Congratulations to our winners this week, Liz and Jake (who’s probably seen this very dog biscuit, or its brother), with a commendation going to Colleen for being as close as it’s possible to be without being spot on. Well done, you guys!

Oh, dear… this one is not going to be easy for me. It looks a bit like a rotting old biscuit, but I’m pretty sure that I’m wrong.

Is that a pumice stone? It looks like lava to me, although not like the standard molded gray pumice stones you usually see.

I am super mystified again! your puzzles are great..they keep me..well… puzzled! Great macro..it almost looks like coal..but I just dont know! Ha ha!Hmmm…the mystery awaits!
Kiki~
I have no clue. If this one is fairly easy, then I would have to drop out for the difficult ones
.
My first instinct was that this reminds me of the mortar and pestle sets we used to use in Indonesia. They were made of lava stone. But that wouldn’t explain the mysterious dimples, or its shape for that matter.
I love these and will definitely check back tomorrow.

At first I thought it might be a curling stone (to stay with the Olympic Games), but I don’t think many people have that in their kitchen, unless they use it as a kettle!
I know what it is: a burnt match!

Looks like a pumice stone, but I’m not sure.
I think it’s a smokeless fuel nugget (coal). It’s a stone. It’s a Joss stick holder

babs – beetle´s last blog ..Platform disaster!
Babs beat me. Ilooked at the holes and thought it must be for holding incense then ..not very pretty for someone as artistic as you? Grinding stone? Then it also has a sort of ‘rubbery’ texture. I dunno . . .

You really are going to have to make these easier for us, Jay. Either that, or give us more clues, since apparently we are all clueless!

Everyone – Hahaha! Well, OK … it’s not lava or a pumice. And you don’t normally find them on windowsills, which is where I photographed this one.
Carry on.
Ah! A windowsill! That was the bit I was having the most trouble with, it almost looks like it’s got a similar texture embossed in it to a kitchen towel, with little leaves and stuff…
(It looks like the more-boring kind of dog biscuit, to me; it looks too light and varied in tone to be charcoal fuel, and too flaky to not be pushed together from bits.)
Ooopss! what could this be? wink! looks like a donut to me.. lol
Thanks for visiting my macro entry..

I thought Mara was right – the head of burnt kitchen match.
Jay, do you use a macro lens, or the macro setting on a zoom?

Looks like a big flat fluffy cookie that someone ate the chocolate chips out of.

I’m clueless.
I’ll be back.

Everyone – Perhaps I should also point out that this is a colour shot, not monochrome?
Doggie biscuit!
I dreamt about you the other night, jay. You’d arranged for Johnny Depp to come to visit a shop we were both in. By coincidence I was also invited to meet Brad Pitt somewhere else at the same time. Needless to say I chose Johnny. But he didn’t speak to me and I didn’t get a photo. Still it was better than nothing, so thank you!

Liz – Hahahaha! You’re very welcome, my dear. Any time, just so long as I’m in on the deal too!
The clues abound, and yet leave me clueless! Hmmm….
petra michelle´s last blog ..Be sure to tip the valet driver!
Everyone – Well done Colleen – you’re 90% right. It is indeed a rotting old biscuit, but of a particular kind. Jake and Liz were 100% right, because it is, in fact, a charcoal dog biscuit, rejected by Sid, who ate all the other kinds and left this one.
In case you live somewhere where charcoal biscuits are unknown, they are sold (and included in mixtures) to aid digestion and improve dog breath. They probably work quite well for the first, but not very much at all for the second.
Thanks for playing, everyone! I hope you all had fun!
I am seriously shocked that I even got close. I really didn’t have a clue! And I have never heard of charcoal dog biscuits, but then, I don’t have a dog.

Well, at least I don’t feel like such an idiot now – I have never seen or heard of charcoal dog biscuits – but then, I have two cats and no dogs. Perhaps we don’t have them in Canada (charcoal dog biscuits, that is, not dogs, we have those).

My guess: a dish scrubby that looks like Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) of 24 (FOX)? OR, perhaps, a charred Mr. Potato Head (who is actually Jack Bauer without the pipe)?

Hmm. Maybe I should have also mentioned that, even though I am one of his biggest fans, I think Mr. Sutherland looks like a spud.

Or a singed scrubby with divots like a potato’s eyes.
Perhaps I should quit while I’m ahead. I AM still ahead, aren’t I? LOL!

Colleen – Just shows how finely honed your identification skills are, doesn’t it?
John McDevitt – Half right! Charcoal biscuit!
DBM – Really? I’m surprised, and yet, not surprised! Not about you not feeling like an idiot, about you not having charcoal biscuits. LOL!
Lisa’s Chaos – Thanks! I’m having fun, and I hope my commenters are, too!
Sandy – Well, it is! It’s a dog cookie!
Sparkle Farkle – Haha! I rather like Kiefer Sutherland. Loved his Dad, Donald, too. Something about those potato heads, huh?
The solution is up in the post (at the bottom). It’s a dog biscuit!
You can’t really become a follower on this blog because it isn’t run by Blogger. You can click on the little orange boxy icon in my menu bar though, to add me to your news feed. It’s the last menu item, on the left, labelled ‘RSS’.
Meleah – Just as well you missed it, then!
Icy BC – Yep, you are wrong! The solution is up there at the bottom of the post. Click on the link to see … a dog biscuit! LOL!
Yay!
