So, here we are again on ABC Wednesday, with the letter ‘J‘. At first I was a bit worried that I wouldn’t find enough to post for this one, but in the end I found I had to prune a little. So many ‘J’s, so little space…
First of all, I know you wouldn’t forgive me if I didn’t post at least one picture of a very famous ‘J‘, Johnny Depp, so here he is.
This one was taken at the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory premiere in London’s Leicester Square by my own fair hand. It’s a wonder there isn’t a serious amount of camera shake on that one, since he was only a few feet away and coming my way. It’s a miracle I had the presence of mind to point and shoot, it is really!
Next, I suppose you’ll be wanting a picture of Jack Sparrow. Well, sadly I’ve never met Johnny all dolled up in his Jack Sparrow costume, but I can do you a nice mural, which is painted on the wall just inside the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disneyland, LA.
We had plenty of time to look at this one, on account of the fact that the queue - the horrendously long queue - goes right past it.
Now, of course, when you think of Jack Sparrow, you might also be thinking of rum, might you not?
It so happens we have some in the drinks cupboard right now, so I took a photo… and then did a little Photoshop magic on it. I’m sure Jack would be proud.
Let’s leave Jack right there, shall we, and I’ll show you a picture of my own Jolly Nice Chap - Mr Yellow Swordfish himself, otherwise known as my Other Half.
That’s him at the back of the ride there in the blue shirt and the genuine Ecuadorian panama. This was taken in Red Canyon, Utah, earlier this year. We booked a trail ride and it was one of the highlights of our holiday. It was just such fun - and the scenery was incredible, as you can see.
Talking of drinks (yes, we were - don’t you remember?), here we have some jars from the kitchen.
Three different flavours of instant coffee. Yes, I freely admit it, when it comes to drinking coffee, we are mere dilettantes. We only really like instant, but we like trying different flavours. I have to tell you that the amaretto and the caramel are disappointing, but I’m quite addicted to the vanilla.
And talking of kitchens, here is one of my favourites from my collection of pressed glass jugs.
It’s a Chippendale jug, but the pattern for this utility tableware from the twenties and thirties was sold a few times and was known in the US as ‘Krys-Tol’ glassware.  I love it. It’s heavy and durable and very elegant. It’s also very old-fashioned now, but I don’t much care. I still use this little beauty.
Oh, you’ll love this one.
My very own junk drawer! Yes, this is what it really looks like - all I did was pull it open and shoot. Well, OK, I shoved a small plastic bag of seeds out of the way so you could actually see what else was in the drawer, but that’s it.
This is my beloved James, my first ever dog, and our first greyhound.
He came from the Wood Green animal shelter in Godmanchester where he’d been taken after wandering into someone’s garage to eat their cat food. He was mangy and scarred, with broken teeth and a piece missing from his tongue, but Wood Green treated the mange before they’d let us have him and he turned out to be the very best dog in the world. I loved him dearly.
Eventually he became known as Jim, and we lost him at the venerable age of (somewhere around) thirteen and a half. He had congestive heart failure.
Jim would have loved Joe Jack’s dog food, but we hadn’t discovered it then.
You might not be very surprised to learn that in my house there are several Johnny Depp movie posters.
These two are at the bottom of the stairs. Dangerous, really .. but no-one has yet fallen down while gazing at him, so I guess we’re alright. The Pirates movies were produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, you know. I just thought I’d throw that in.
And this is in the guest room.
Now, I know you’re going to ask what Dead Man has to do with the letter ‘J‘, but if you look closely, you’ll see that this is a Jim Jarmusch movie. And a darn good one, at that! Spoiled (in my opinion) only by the soundtrack, which is not only Neil Young, but far, far too loud.
Last but not least, here’s a picture of some jewellery.
Yes, it is. Jewellery. See? Bottom left hand corner on the wrist of that girl in the crowd - and the one next to her!  Oh, yeah. You might notice Johnny Depp is in it too - and the suit partly obscuring the man himself belongs to one of his minders, whose name, I believe, is Jerry.
Well, that was fun, wasn’t it? And I didn’t even get to use my Don Juan poster, or the Benny & Joon poster, or the packet of jelly, my leather jacket, or a nice big close up of Johnny Depp’s jaw. Of course, to do that I’d have had to steal a copyrighted picture belonging to someone else and I might have ended up in jail.
That’s Alcatraz, by the way. Not a nice place to be, but luckily for me, closed for business!

I just love this. The jewelry one made me laugh at loud.
I love your jug, but here, we’d call it a pitcher. Doesn’t matter. It looks very stylish and useful.

Wow! Lots of J’s there. One missing though. I expect a photo of Jay in there somewhere - I feel cheated ;O)

By the way. Did you steal our junk drawer?
Babs - beetles last blog post..An award and a gift!
ROFL!!!
One can never have to much J, especially not of Johnny!
I vote for another J day………or maybe 8 or 20!
And you only have 1 junk drawer? Geez, I have at least 8 or so.
jts last blog post..not in the mood to write
Sorry… I kinda faded out there after the Jack Sparrow Rum (I was going to ask you where the heck you got THAT!) until the movie posters. Was there something else in between those???
BTW. Thank you.
From the bottom of my heart.
Thank you.

The flavoured coffee photo was a revelation to me. I’ve been bringing back numerous tubs of flavoured creamer from WalMart for years as we don’t sell them here (God knows I’ve badgered the big supermarkets enough but they won’t budge - even ASDA who are owned by WalMart) and my choices are amaretto and vanilla.
Never thought we could get the actual coffee flavoured too !
Think a combination of the both might be a bit overpowering though.
Silverbacks last blog post..I Expect To Be Arrested Any Time Now.
Ruth - Over here, it’s too small to be a pitcher! This little jug is only about four or five inches high. To be a pitcher in the UK it has to be BIG! LOL!
Babs - I never put pictures of myself up - don’t want to go frightening people!
JT - Indeed, one can never have enough Johnny! I completely agree!
Who said I only had one junk drawer! This one is merely the tidiest! LOL!
Maureen - You’re welcome my dear. Always happy to feed a fellow JDOCD sufferer’s obsession.
The rum with the photoshopped label is Appleton Estate rum. I’d told it’s very nice. I wouldn’t know. LOL!
Silverback - One of the things I loved in the US were the little pots of flavoured creamers - my favourite was French Vanilla - but I found them too sweet for my taste, apart from the occasional cup which I thoroughly enjoyed. When I discovered the flavoured unsweetened granules I was delighted. Whittards sell them, as you see, and so do Julian Graves.
However, if you like sweet coffee, Yellow Swordfish says to tell you to go to an Italian deli and buy the coffee flavouring syrup. You can buy both vanilla and amaretto. Actually some of the bigger supermarkets like Sainsbury’s sell the syrup in vanilla!
ha, you sure like Johnny boy don’t you?
Your junk drawer is pretty neat too!
I’m so J - jealousy & judgmental happen to be my religion! hehe
The Real Mother Hens last blog post..Back
Great pictures of Johnny. Some people are just too good-looking for their own good. I would find it difficult not to reach out and touch him to make sure he’s real. Gorgeous.
And poor James. That one tugged at my heart. I think my next dogs might have to be rescues, because I have such a tender heart for animals who are in need.
Sophie, the little cat I met on my walk, turns out to have an owner. She is finally wearing a collar, but we have come across her twice, sunning herself and cleaning herself in the middle of the road. I worry for her.
Peace - D

Hi Jay - (there’s another “j”). What a cute idea for a post. I love all of your pictures of the “j”s.

That was lovely!!! Especially the junk drawer and Jack Sparrow, well, what can I say? I could watch Johnny in that character for ever …..
Kates last blog post..A whole new room!!
I am stealing this post- the content, the pictures and every thing. You see I am quite alien to the word ‘Copyright’ so you can’t even sue me.
On a serious note, the other day I was searching for Gregory David Robert’s interview and look what I found- http://johnnydeppreads.com/index.php?showtopic=1313
Scratch Bagss last blog post..Are you trying to prove something?
RMH - Um, yeah, I do kinda like that Johnny boy … does it show? ROFL!
River Poet - Having touched him, I can assure you he’s real - and very sweet, too!
James was gorgeous. Wood Green thought he’d been a travellers’ dog, since he was found near a place where they’d been staying and had just left. Also he had a large (5-6 inch) jagged scar on one thigh, which had been stitched under the skin with nylon, something no vet would do. That dog was so eager to please, he was the easiest dog in the world to train, because all I had to do was make him understand what I wanted and he’d do it if he could. He was smart, too! And he adored us.
I’m glad little Sophie has an owner! If they put a collar on her, they must care for her?
Barbara - Thanks - you should join in! It’s fun!
Kate - Thanks! Ah, that rogue Jack Sparrow. He’s the one who got me into all this, you know!
Scratch - Don’t make me come over there!!! LOL!
Ah, yes, JDR. It’s a great site! Very, very good for news, information and pictures!
All your photos are great but the one that made me laugh was the Junk drawer.
Yes, we all have one of those don’t we?
Bear((( )))

A fantastic set of J’s
Thanks for visiting my blog and yes I did take the jackal photos and it was at very close quarters
wow that sure is a lot of Js! great!
I would like to add a J to your list– “Jealous” because I don’t have a Dead Man poster.
Excellent film, Dead Man.
J proved to be a fine letter!
PS- I love that your dog’s name was Jim. He seems like he was a sweetie.

Wow, that was all very impressive! Love the movie posters.
Of all of Johnny Depp’s movies, Dead Man is one I HAVEN’T seen. Netflix, here I come!
Angis last blog post..Where Did My Butt Go?
Ohhh. what a wonderful trip to take us on.. and I am DEEPLY impressed you were once within grabbing distance of Mr. Depp - without getting yourself arrested too (great self-restraint, you should be proud).
I am also hugely impressed at your talents in photoshop, that photo is priceless, I truly did a double take there for a minute!
Great photos
Thanks for including the jail one to make me feel at home.
Btw, I have awarded you an award.

The minder’s name is Jerry Judge, as a matter of fact!
And I wouldn’t mind having what he’s minding …
Jennys last blog post..Oh, I Forgot …
I love J Wednesday! Yes, that’s what I’m calling it and only change it to K wednesday next week if you can come up with as many Depp refs ok? LOL (kind, kissable, kinky?…)
Can I add some J’s?
JENI -
JUST - can’t wait to
JUMP - into the bed below that Dead Man poster!!
Been too long Jay and it’s rather nice being held at gun point by Bill JUST before bedtime as you’re climbing into your JAMMIES.
Ahh your beloved Jim. x He looks so sweet in that pic.
Bear Naked - Thank you! And yes, I’m sure everyone does have a junk drawer. I’m always impressed if it’s only one…
Deejay - Wow, well those are beautiful pictures, and I’m very impressed! Everyone should pop over to ‘Age is all in the mind’ and take a look!
MagicEye - Thanks! Nice to see you here!
Jenn - Yes, Jim was an absolute sweetie. He’d have tied himself in knots rather than hurt a human. No matter what was being done to him, and he saw a bit of action at the vet during his life.
You must go and buy yourself a Dead Man poster immediately! You know you deserve one.
Angi - Thank you! Oh, you must see Dead Man! It’s a Western, but full of black humour. Nicely paced, too. It’s just the music, as I say. I always want to turn it down, but if you do you can’t hear the dialogue.
Shrinky - Well you see, at these events you are not only in a crowd of women and girls who’d probably tear you to shreds if you hurt one hair of his head, but there are oodles of security bods too! If I’d jumped him (just supposing I could heave my ageing self over the high barrier) I’d have been carted off in a trice, and then, you see, I’d have lost my position and my chance to watch him. But worse than that, I’d have upset him. He wouldn’t like that at all, bless him.
Thanks for the compliments!
AnneDroid - Haha! I bet the jail you work in doesn’t bear much resemblance to Alcatraz, apart from the whole ‘loss of freedom’ thing.
An award, for little me? Oooooh, thank you! I’ll pop over and collect it! Thank you!
Jenny - There, see? I knew it was Jerry something, though I wasn’t absolutely sure it wasn’t Gerry with a ‘G’ .. and he’s a sweetie, too. Very professional and takes good care of our Johnny! Thanks for adding that info!
Wouldn’t mind what he’s minding? Get in line, as you MerryCans say! LOL!
Jeni - Now, behave yourself, woman! Where am I going to find all those Johnny pics? I mean, I’m quite willing to go take the appropriate pictures, but I can’t help feeling he might have other plans this week. Sad to say …
Good list of ‘j’s - it has indeed been too long. Hopefully you’ll be able to pop up soon, huh? Looking forward to it!
You’d have loved Jim. We did. *Sigh*
Wow! you really outdid yourself. And to think that i found “J” a bit of a struggle
Richiess last blog post..ABC Wednesday
Now this is a blog I could definately get into!!!!
Yay Johnny Depp. Good ABC wednesday post!
gemmas last blog post..J is for Jerome (ghost city)
So many Js..I love your dog, our cats were left in a park as kittens and were ill when we got them. They are fine now. I also like the junk drawer as we must all have them.
You left a comment on my blog about herons. People are very upset here as the herons eat their expensive coi fish in their ponds and they wanted to know if the herons could be killed. Putting a net over the pond works.
Just lovely!
And I do adore Johnny Depp. Delicious!

Richies - Well, you see, I’d already had requests for Johnny, so that was a good start!
I did love your ‘light js’ though! Quite impressive!
Gemma - Ah, you like Johnny too? Well, well. Welcome aboard!
Michelle - Thank you! It’s very rewarding taking on rescue animals, isn’t it? So good to see them regain health and trust.
We didn’t want to net our pond, so we replaced it with a brick built above-ground pond. It’s about two and a half feet high, and the one place where a heron might land and wade in (which is what they like to do, as I’m sure you know), has wire strung across just under the surface to discourage them.
It’s also useful to grow plants for the fish to hide in! We’ve lost one or two, but … well, that’s nature for you. I don’t blame the herons.
TSannie - Thanks! Always nice to meet another Depp fan!
Margy - It’s one of my junk drawers!
Your Snowbirds are very similar to our Red Arrows.
Kouji - Hi there! Yes, indeed, bit of a clue there, huh? LOL!
Thank you - yes, James was adorable. He was the sweetest thing, he really was!
You asked on my blog about the little chickadee with the deformed bill as to how it feeds. I’ve seen him take little insects with no problems, but he can’t open any of the seeds. I always have sunflower and peanut bits in the feeders and he is able to eat them without a problem, so maybe he can survive the winter.
Oh, I love Johnny Depp! You did not disappoint! : D
I just heard that he will be starring in three more Disney movies; a 4TH Pirates of the Caribbean, he’ll play the March Hare in Alice in Wonderland (If I remember, that is a Tim Burton movie) and TONTO in The Lone Ranger! I CAN’T WAIT!!
PS: love the junk drawer! : D

Love that jug btw!
DrowseyMonkeys last blog post..Contest Winner
Michelle - Oh, thank you - I’m glad he’s able to eat what you give him. Can you get dried mealworms? Perhaps he’d like those in the winter, too! People put them on bird tables for robins and blackbirds over here.
Kim - Yes! Although I think he’s the Mad Hatter in Alice, and it’s just a voice, as far as I know. But Tonto? Mmm … could be good, unless they put him in that awful ‘deerskin’ suit that Tonto used to wear! Naked to the waist might be nice. Tee hee.
DM - Johnny? Oh .. no-one particular. Don’t worry about him. LOL!
Hee! I love the picture of the jewelry. I’m sure it was just a coincidence that Johnny Depp happened to be in the background.

OK Now Johnny Debb is of course delightful but I’m so glad you have a junk drawer! I have a junk cupboard above the microwave which only the brave dare open for fear of something falling out and causing a concussion! Nice little window into your world Jay!

Baino - Everyone has a junk drawer. I think 90% of our drawers are junk drawers in some sense or other! That’s the one I think of as ‘the’ junk drawer, though! LOL!
