So elsewhere in the Blogosphere, we’ve been shown food that looks like stuff, and very funny it was, too! But now I bring you ‘things that look like things’! Well, to be strictly accurate, things that look like faces. Anyway, it’s all new and very exciting! I bet you can’t wait.
That little face up there was lying in the grass watching us go by with the dogs. It was OH who spotted it.
‘Hey!’ he said. ‘There’s a little face in the grass!’
And he was right. There it was, complete with ears, eyes, nose, hair, and everything - including a couple of projections out the back which could possibly pass for deformed arms … or something. It may, or may not, be sticking its tongue out at us.
He thought it was a leaf, but on closer inspection I discovered the truth. The Thing which Looks like a Face is, in fact, a piece of rabbit spine. Pretty, ain’t it? It might even be from the very same slimy rotting piece of rabbit that The Pirate brought me as a gift not so long ago.
The second Thing that Looks like a Face is less gruesome.
It’s just a bit of stump in a hedge which has been butchered by an automatic flail-type hedge cutter. Over and over again, year after year. I guess that could be considered a little bit gruesome if you’re a lover of vegetation, but there it is.
And look! See? It has a face!
It seems to have lost the top of its head and part of an arm, poor thing.
And it seems to me that the face is expressing a certain fear and loathing for flail-type hedge cutters.
What do you think?

I think I would be a little worried if I spotted the second face peering at me. It looks as if it wants revenge for its mistreatment and doesn’t mind upon whom it wreaks it.
Fascinating images. I love stuff like this.

Ha ha! That second one looks a bit creepy. Does it come alive on a full moon, and scratch it’s way to the flail-type hedge cutter’s home?

Marvellous …. good work… we do the same with clouds… helps after a few beers !
moons last blog post..Too much money ……
Liz - It’s by a stile which we climb over nearly every day. It hasn’t hurt us yet … but on the other hand, we haven’t cut any hedges! LOL!
Ruth - I’m amazed at how we humans find faces in everything, from wood to the moon and back. Seems we’re programmed for it.
Babs - Hmm … I haven’t been out lately by moonlight. But the flail-cutter was still alive earlier this year, so probably not!
Moon - I do it with clouds too, but so far I’ve failed miserably to get a decent picture of the images. I’ll keep trying.
Oh, I think the photos are tough, as it’s all down to the individual ….. we had one that I thought looked like Homer at The Grand Canyon !

wow. these photos are so very cool. they really do look like faces.

Great observations there, you should participate in Phoctober! I’m a sucker for finding faces in shadows, clouds, firelight but never thought to photograph them - great finds there!
absolutley my creative spirit is working overtime. Is it a pig being chased ??are the circumstances??good good post Jay sandy
sandys last blog post..One Giant Leap for Acorn Kind (the good one)
Wow, those are great Jay! Very spooky, I think I would freak if I came upon those…
Maureens last blog post..Too Many Choices
Wicked! The second one looks a bit like an elephant with a broken trunk. Or is that just me?
English Mums last blog post..Warning: this post contains the C word
Moon - Tell me you photographed Homer? I think I need to see that one!
Meleah - Thanks! I thought they did! And OH too, clearly!
Baino - What is Phoctober?
I’ll be looking for your photos of faces everywhere now!
Sandy - A pig being chased! I can see that - with two little legs flying out behind! Good one!
Maureen - Nah - they were sweet! And the little bone face was so teeny!
EM - I think it does! Or maybe a ferocious hedgehog? LOL!
I guess less gruesome is in the eye of the beholder.
Spare a thought for those of us that have faces that look like rabbit-spines and gnarled old bits of tree-stump.
Actually, come to think of it, are you 100% positive that your second photo is not Daddy Papersurfer hiding in your hedge?!

I’m glad you’re showing us these little faces in daylight, and not in atmospheric shadows of evening. I think I would have to flee.
That last tree has a bit of a Sleepy Hollow look to it. (Just to related to our boy Johnny’s film career for today…)

Very interesting, indeed, Jay. The second looks macabre; almost gargoyle-like. Goes to show you how many “things” one can find, if one observes closely enough. Have a wonderful day! :))

The second “face” (I kid you not) looks exactly like a teapot I own, which features an elephants face, with the elephant’s trunk as the spout. Yes, it is a fairly ugly teapot…
Suldogs last blog post..My Breakfast With Yoooooook
I love things that look like things! Unless those things are rabbit spines. Ew. But that branch thingy is pretty cool looking. Since I can never seem to find food that looks like stuff, maybe I, too, can start finding things that look like things!

Cool! Suldog is right … that second one is an elephant! Great pics, Jay.
Jennys last blog post..Yes … I’m Joshing You
Bob - Well, at least the second one isn’t made of dead rabbit!
Somnambulist - I suppose it might be! Have you seen him lately? Does he look a bit … twiggy?
Jenn - Nice one! I did get the Fear and Loathing in there quite neatly, I thought!
Petra - It does, doesn’t it? And I think the more you look, the more you see!
Suldog - That must be one ugly teapot! Do you ever actually use the thing? LOL!
JD - I look forward to your things that look like things! The more things the merrier!
Jenny - Well, that’s three votes for elephant, so I guess it doesn’t look much like a ferocious hedgehog, after all!
Jay, I just love the way you look at things! Thanks for your comment over in Jerusalem about the manholes. My bonus was that I get to discover your blog.
