Hah! I have a full motorcycle license too
Should we start swapping “motorcycles we have owned” stories?! Or bike accidents?
Curious thing you have with the knives. I don’t but …. when on holiday in Germany 6 years ago now…. when out doing the tourist thing en-famille with my girlfriend and her other half, he suggested we stop off at a knife factory. She was embarrassed at the suggestion (after all who goes on holiday and want to go to a knife factory) but I am fascinated by factory production per se and in order to humour him I said yes. After the tour (totally fascinating) we went into the shop and bought some knives. About 8 different knives and paid in euros which in the end came to a ridiculously low £56 for such wonderful knives properly made. And they are still perfect to this day. But not all-in-one stainless steel.
Eeee by gum, the fascinating things you learn about someone as a result of a meme!
Dawn – you know me so well! LOL!
Doris – I love touring factories, too. We’ve done that a few times on holiday, Dartington glass was the last, I think. Sadly I don’t do the biking thing anymore now, on account of the fibro. I’m usually too tired to concentrate properly. But … my most amusing bike accident was while I was still living at home.
My Mum and I used to go to work at the same time, and I used to push my bike out onto the road to start it, because it was an old CZ 125 and a PIG to get going. And ride, come to that. So one morning, my Mum’s ride turned up and she was waiting out on the road for Mum to pull the car out, while I was jumping up and down on the crank as usual… and Mum backed out of the drive straight into me and knocked me and my bike flying into a hedge and she didn’t notice!! Her ride was jumping up and down waving her arms and yelling ‘Eve! Eve! You’ve run your daughter over!!!’ ROFL I wasn’t hurt, although my pride was dented. Nothing like pulling your bike out of a hedge in front of rush hour traffic.
OMG what a scream ….. I can see this continuing. I wonder if you were able to use it as an emotional guilt trip from your mum for some time? LOL
Hats off to you for having a CZ as it was one of the bikes I considered for sheer affordability (even brand new) but was warned off it ‘cos of its unresponsiveness on all counts. But I like work horse bikes so after my first bike, a second hand Honda C70 I bought a CB200 from a private seller from their garden for a bargain £60 even in those days. It started first time after years of neglect and was great. I recognise the whole righting a bike in rush hour traffic as once my bike went over for some dumb reason – I think connected to me being pregnant and not quite with it. As grown men rushed to help I was most indignant and just “had” to lift it myself even though it was way heavier than me and I had to make it look easy! Funny thing “pride”!
The fibromyalgia is real cr*p to put an effective halt to riding. I stopped on account of my last accident which could have killed me and shook me up too much. Just a couple of months before my marriage to the darling Mr Doris, and I could afford a bike again, I had a gorgeous Virago 550 low rider. Pity about people who pull out of side roads without looking!
Yikes! Yes, very scary!
I still tease Mum about that little incident!
We had a Virago too! It was OH’s bike but I used to ride it sometimes. I kind of liked it, but the custom style is a bit ‘soft’ for me. Ha, funny me saying that after a CZ, isn’t it? But I picked up a CZ many years after that first one, and it was absolutely TERRIFYING to ride. No handling at all! My own bike was a Suzuki GS500E. I liked that one.
I must admit that with traffic today, I probably wouldn’t ride again if I could. One of the guys in the local bike club got killed just before I stopped riding, and it does make you think.
LOL I prefer the “soft” rather than the super-bike riding position of say your Suzuki. Never could get round that squatting over the petrol tank thing!
The other very essential detail is that at 5′ 3″ I couldn’t feel in control of a bike in which I couldn’t get at least one foot solidly on the ground. The main reason the CZ was ruled out after I was warned off them. With the Virago I got a whole two feet on the ground.
Very sad about your guy in the club. It is most sobering. I too say I wouldn’t ride again because of the traffic but I think I might just one day. When the Virago was fixed up some time after the accident I forced myself to ride it there and then just so that I wouldn’t have a fear of actually riding it, and then sold it. However, I was shaken up much more than I realised and it took me 4 attempts at my car license to feel confident enough again.
I’ve just dug out a post I wrote about a boyfriend with a super bike ….. but the comments section goes off on a tangent.

[...] so I’ve been tagged again. This time by Jay over at The Depp Effect. For those not in the know, this is a little game that us bloggers play where we send little [...]
Doris, the GS500E was a commuter bike. I couldn’t possibly do the crouch over the petrol tank either, on account of a damaged neck. I’m 5′ 4″ so I could get a foot flat down on that one, or toes down on both feet. It was actually quite a nice bike, though a lot would find it unexciting.
I’m impressed you got back on the bike at all after a brush with death. Probably very good thinking though.
Knives eh?
http://www.heinnie.com/
Yeah, knives…. wanna make something of it? LOL!
I just like them. I have been known to cheer myself up when I’m down by buying a new knife. But I’m not violent, honest!!
Holy crap Thrifty, they’re some serious ol’ blades!!!
Thrifty – do you have ANY idea how long I’ve spent on that site today? ROFL
Good grief …. *faints*
OMG!! Thrifty!!
Custom Knives…All of them… but the Brian Tighe one!!
Almost as orgasm-inducing as sharing the room with Sweeney himself.
ROFL @ Jeni! I knew you’d like them.
